But to start/continue your digital marketing journey, you need to focus on below mentioned SEO Tips for Small Businesses.
Best SEO Tips for Small Businesses Websites
One of the top reasons that new businesses fail was that they had no website. However, merely having a website is not even enough.
If you have a website that nobody can find, good luck convincing your clients you are legitimate.
Build A User-Friendly Website for your Business
Google is out there to imitate users and find out what things they do and don’t like on websites.
If you build a website that only a search engine will like, chances are your rankings won’t last very long.
Google is continually changing their algorithms to catch spammy SEO practices. But if you have a website that users like, and continue updating it often, Google is going to keep you ranked.
Do yourself a favour and do it right from the start. It’s much easier to build a website and keep it ranked than to make a crappy one and have to change it every month to keep up with Google.
So, create the best website that scores well with search engines and also provides value when people come to visit your site.
I have already written an article on how to build a website in 3 easy ways, check it out. It will help you in creating the best site.
SEO (Search Engine Optimization)
Many business owners just assume that if they build a website, people will find it. Unfortunately, this is not how the Internet works.
With literally billions of websites out there now, it is challenging for your potential clients to find your site, no matter how great and useful it is.
You need SEO to get your website ranking on Google. If you have an email address, you probably have received an email trying to sell you SEO or some software that automates the whole process.
You don’t need to purchase such expensive software applications. SEO is the process of getting traffic from the “free,” “organic,” “editorial” or “natural” listings on search engines.
The best advice I can give is to forget about the search engines. Start by creating the best content that you can.
Provide unique, engaging articles. Write about what you know best, your own small business.
Tell the world everything you know about your business. Write often. Write detailed posts or pages that are of value to anyone who would come to your business.
The key is to write about what your customers want to hear. That is how your business can help them fulfil some need or want in their life.
Think of your customers. Write from their perspective. We all want to know, “What’s in it for me?” Tell them.
If you have created great content that gives your customers what they want then the SEO is natural. Many WordPress themes come with SEO options built right in.
On each page or post, you will need to scroll down the page and fill in two fields. These are the custom title tag, the meta description.
The custom title tag is a title other than the title of your page. Use this if you want the title in the search engine results page to be different than the actual page title. You can think of what value your page has for customers when you do this.
The meta description is the page description. It is what will appear after the title on the search engine result page.
By default search engines use the first 150 characters of your first paragraph. It may or may not sound what your actual article is. Think of a good description for your page and put it here.
The Divi WordPress theme takes care of the rest. If you have created a great page, then these SEO fields should be easy to fill in.
Small business websites need to contain articles that will appear on the first or second page of search results in search engines such as Google and Bing.
SEO Tactics need to be applied to accomplish your best results.
I already explained how to write an SEO friendly article, and please check out to write the best content for your site.
Remember, content can be presented in many different ways. There is an excellent way to display text information and a not so good way.
How to Use Keywords
When creating pages for your small business website, you must keep keywords in mind.
Keywords are the words you would like people to use to find you when they use a search engine such as Google or Bing.
You need to pick keywords that are what your website is. If your site is a “Software Programming Training” Website, then you would not choose keywords like “SEO” and “web hosting.”
You would choose words like “Best Software Programming Training” and “Improve your Programming Skills”, etc.
Just do a search on Google for the keyword tool. Keyword Research will help you to know what keywords are popular and which ones are highly competitive.
The tool is used for Adsense. Don’t let this fool you. It’s an excellent research tool.
You will need to look for keywords that are popular but not competitive. It takes some time, but it is well worth it.
Keep these keywords in mind when you create your articles. Use them in titles and in the context of the article where they appear naturally.
You don’t need to focus heavily on the keywords if you are writing about what your site is. It should come naturally. Just be aware that you will use these keywords in other places.
Bonus Tip: Use LSIGraph to collect semantic keywords (like synonyms of your target keyword) and use them in our article to get rank for different similar keywords at the same time for a single piece.
Build Quality Backlinks
Building backlinks is a vast subject, in which we can use different methods/strategies to get backlinks from high authority and relevant websites.
Backlink building is one of the crucial off-page SEO technique which you must consider—checkout Best BackLink Building Techniques for more information.
More quality and relevant backlinks for your website mean better visibility in search engines like google, bing, etc.
Best Practices for Using Headings for small businesses
Your page should be divided into logical sections with headings. These headings should use the proper title.
All you need to do is highlight your text in WordPress and choose the Corresponding Heading from the drop-down box at the top of the text editing window.
Bonus Tip: To get the best heading ideas, first search in Google with your target keyword and see what your competitors have written. You can collect all well-written headings, and you make your own best heading from it. You can use BuzzSumo also for this.
How to Use Image Alt tags
Images should always use Alt tags. These are alternative descriptions of the image that will appear in browsers that don’t display images or browsers used by blind people.
These Alt tags should include your keywords. You enter these when inserting your image.
The Alternate Text area is where you should put these keywords. The keywords must explain the image. Otherwise, don’t use them.
What are Meta tags, and how do you use them?
If you are using the SmallBiz Small Business WordPress Theme, you will have three more fields at the bottom of your screen when creating a new page or post. They are Meta Title, Meta Description, and Meta Keywords.
You should enter the title you want to appear in your search results into the Meta Title field. This title should include your keywords.
It must be less than 70 characters. It is the maximum number of characters that Google will display.
You should enter the description you want to appear in your search results into the Meta Description field.
The description should be 150 characters or less. If you don’t enter anything into this field, Google will use the first 150 characters of your webpage.
Likewise, there are some other Important SEO Factors that you must consider to boost your business online.
Remember, SEO is going to be one of the defining features of your online presence.
If you don’t do SEO, you will probably get lost in the sea of websites out there, and likely will lose a lot of business that should have been yours.
Do yourself a favour and do SEO, and do it right.
